Fashion changes, Style endures!!
Cricket!! The Game no one knew how it had arrived. In 1975, the first ever Cricket World Cup being played and everyone just knew that there was a game being played for 60 overs between the top teams. West Indies, was like a team on a mission, conquering the World cup for two years, 1975 and 1979, in a row but were given a reality check in 1983 by India. The entire world realized that West Indies are not unbeatable and concentrated harder to win the World Cup. Those days of Cricket, played in whites, were a delight to watch and the only way the teams could be differentiated was from the color of their respective helmets or caps. The players were just concentrating on their techniques and the method of playing cricket rather than style.
1992 - A Colorful Cricket World Cup
1992 World cup, first time, the world cup was played with colored clothing. This World cup reminded me of the colorful Holi Festival in our country. It was pleasing to the eyes to see the teams play in colored clothing and it then became easy to differentiate between ODI cricket and a test cricket. When Pakistan lifted the trophy there was a shade of Green not only in the stadium but all over the cricketing world.
Simplicity still Remained but Creativity Introduced
Even though Colored clothing was introduced in 1992, the simplicity in players still remained. No one was conscious about their looks and were just worried about playing cricket. The players were never lured into wearing attractive clothing or designing a tattoo. However, one doesn't remain the same throughout their life. As the games progressed, not only cricketers became creative with their shot making but also were more creative in choosing the right design of their jerseys for the World Cups. As one said "To be CREATIVE, you have to be CRAZY, not because you're CRAZY or want others to become CRAZY, but because you must be CRAZY, before others become CRAZY for you.”
Cricket - A Game of Style and Finesse
Cricket when compared from the 1975 WC to the 2015 WC has noticed a lot of changes not only in the way the game is being played but also in the style quotient. The style quotient is noticed even in the spectators who come to the stadiums to watch the match. When u compare even the world cup trophies from 1975, it has also undergone a major change in its style. The trophy now looks more glamorous and beautiful. Cricketers now feel that their game should either be a work of art, or at least wear a work of art. The modern era players like the Dhawans ,the Kohlis , the Dhonis, the Jadejas, the Gayles , the Sammys and the Russells have become more conscious about their style quotient as the younger generation try to follow their way of designing a beard/mustache, their way of dressing etc.. Even President Musharaff couldn't resist himself from admitting of being a fan of MS Dhoni's Long hairstyle in 2006.
However, would like to conclude by saying that Cricketers shall always possess the class and the inherent talent and even their "Growing age can kill the beauty but not the style".
